Sports Medicine Fellowship Mission
The mission of our program is to recruit talented physicians and educate them in the principles and practice of sports medicine. Through our quality learning experience we aim to develop well-rounded, highly skilled physicians who are able to care for athletes at all levels of competition.

- Where are we located?

Our fellowship is in Riverside County, California. Our fellows rotate in various neighboring cites: Riverside, Moreno Valley and Perris.
- How are we accredited?

We have accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
- What candidates get accepted into our program?

We accept ACGME accredited residency graduates in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.
- How many fellows do we accept?

We accept two fellows per year, both allopathic and osteopathic candidates.
- Which specialties do we accept?

We currently accept Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. We are unable to accept Emergency Medicine or Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation specialties.

- How has your program done in the match?

Our program began in 2018 with one fellow and increased to two fellows in 2019. Our program as filled all slots since starting the fellowship.
- Does your program sponsor visas?

We do not currently sponsor visas.
- Do we use an electronic health records (EHR) system?

Yes, RUHS utilizes EPIC for its electronic health record.
- What do we look for in an applicant?
-
We look for applicants with a commitment to primary care sports medicine as well as commitment to their respective primary specialty. We value applicants with experience in the care of vulnerable populations. We seek applicants who have experience in game coverage, pre-participation exams, and attendance at sports conferences. We value applicants who also have experience in the education of residents and medical students. We value applicants who have specific niche interests within sports medicine, this can include combat sports, dance medicine, rock climbing or any off the beaten path interest.
- Do we have ultrasound curriculum?

We follow the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) recommend MSK US curriculum. We have an average of one monthly lecture by our faculty which is followed by protected scanning time. Our curriculum is based on ESSR guidelines as well as the approach by Jacobson in his book "Fundamentals of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound".
- What sets your program apart?

The main difference in our program is the care of the underserved community athletes. We offer coverage at Cal Baptist and UCR athletics as well as Riverside Community College and the local Riverside Unified School District. We provide ample training with musculoskeletal ultrasound in the clinic and hands on workshops. We also cover combat sports, amateur boxing with the USA boxing and amateur MMA with CAMO MMA.
