Patient Safety
Our Commitment to Patient Safety
At Riverside University Health System (RUHS), your safety is our top priority. We are committed to a culture of safety that is built on accountability, transparency, teamwork, continuous learning, and patient and family engagement as the driving principles to zero preventable harm.
How We Remain Committed to Patient Safety
- Clear Policies and Protocols: We follow patient safety guidelines that promote psychological safety, accountability, and transparency, and a culture that promotes continuous learning.
- Listening and Improving: We regularly conduct a hospital-wide culture of safety survey to better understand how we as an organization can best support our staff in providing high quality care and preventing harm.
- Team Training: All staff receive training to improve communication and teamwork skills needed to always provide safe and coordinated patient care.
- Safety Reporting: Our confidential event reporting system allows all staff to share concerns about patient safety, near misses, or unsafe conditions.
- Smart Technology: We leverage technology, such as electronic physician order entry and barcode medication scanning systems, as additional safeguards to prevent medical errors.
- Continuous Improvement: We apply proven quality-improvement methods, including Lean and Plan-Do-Study-Act, to strengthen our ability to learn and proactively improve our healthcare system.
- Access to Your Records: You can view your medical records and provider notes through our patient portal and other tools. We provide support to help you understand your health information in a clear, culturally and linguistically appropriate way. Patients are also encouraged to request corrections if needed.
- Ongoing Commitment: We work with our teams and community partners to continuously strengthen our policies and practices that keep patients safe. We engage our patients and their family members through our Patient and Family Advisory Council and leverage their experience and feedback to improve on our care delivery.
