Emergency medicine doctor wins national award

Vituity recently honored RUHS physician Dr. Stephanie Loe with its 2022 Culture of Caring Award. This award recognizes outstanding leadership and dedication to establishing a culture of caring.

Dr. Loe has been an emergency medicine attending and core faculty at Riverside University Health System for the past 9 years. She is assistant medical director of disaster medicine and coordinates the emergency and health system disaster response efforts.

Dr. Loe has been a critical and valuable team member, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. On Jan 28, 2020, with less than 12 hours’ notice, she was informed that 200 evacuees from Wuhan, China were arriving at March Airforce Base in Moreno Valley. With little time to waste, Dr. Loe quickly gathered a team and brought medical supplies in the middle of night and established the advanced urgent care on site at March Airforce Base. She spent almost 2 weeks straight on-site caring for evacuees there in what was one of the nation’s first major response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was just the beginning of her outstanding leadership efforts throughout the pandemic. Recognizing the impact that being the pandemic was having on mental health, Dr. Loe started making balloons animals for patients and staff in the emergency department. Her new hobby became a source of joy to both patients and staff.

In addition to her work during the pandemic, Dr. Loe also founded the Riverside International Medicine Team and organized medical trips to Guatemala in 2020 and Tanzania in 2021.

In addition to Vituity’s Culture of Caring Award, Dr. Loe has also been honored with the Emerging Leader Award from RUHS medical staff.
