About Our Program
Riverside University Health System – Behavioral Health is committed to the development of the next generation of Behavioral Health Professionals. With the help of dedicated staff, volunteers, and professional student interns, RUHS-BH Substance Use Programs provide accessible, high quality treatment services for substance use problems, and/or other addictions. These programs offer a wide range of treatment and prevention services that include assessment, education, individual and group counseling sessions, sobriety maintenance support groups, case management, and referrals to outside services.
Who Should Apply
We accept applications from students currently enrolled in Alcohol & Drug Use Certificate and AA/AS programs.
Placements
Riverside University Health System – Behavioral Health has clinics throughout the county that participate in student training.

What to Expect
Typical internship duties that a student will participate in may include treatment planning, individual, group or family therapy, and case management. Students will work opposite Behavioral Health staff to carry out daily tasks.
Training
We provide excellent student training in support of the student learning experience. Training on Motivational Interviewing, Law & Ethics, Boundaries, and Self-Disclosure are offered to students prior to beginning internship.
Hours and Schedules
AOD student interns are expected to complete 10-15 hours a week for at least 4 months. Most clinics are open Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm and schedules will be created at each clinic’s discretion.
Compensation
Please complete the AOD Student Intern Program application and submit electronically to the email provided below. If you are identified as a potential candidate, you may be invited to interview with the department for possible placement.
