About the RUHS Neurosurgery Residency Program
Our Neurosurgery Residents span through the Southern California region, rotating through numerous 
hospitals to gain a holistic neurological surgery experience in the various sub-specialties. These hospitals include:
- Riverside University Health System - Medical Center in Moreno Valley, California
- Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, California
- Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Fontana, California
- Redlands Community Hospital Redlands, California
- Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center
- Children's Hospital Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California
The RUHS Neurosurgery Residency program has Initial ACGME accreditation. The residency program is on a 7-year track.
Schedule
Postgraduate Year 1
PGY 1: Time is spent at RUHS Medical Center completing rotations in internal medicine, emergency medicine, general surgery, trauma surgery, neurocritical care, and neurosurgery.
Postgraduate Year 2
PGY 2: Time is spent at ARMC, RUHS Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, and Redlands Community Hospital with focus on neurosurgery, neurocritical vare, and trauma neurosurgery.
Postgraduate Year 3 & 4
PGY 3 & 4: Time is spent at ARMC, RUHS-MC, Kaiser Permanente Fontana, and Redlands Community with focus on neurosurgery, neurocritical care, interventional neurosurgery, and trauma neurosurgery. PGY 3s also spend at least 3 months at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles with focus on neurointerventional radiology.
Postgraduate Year 5
PGY 5: In addition to the previous focus, residents spend at least 6 months at Children's Hospital LA to enhance their exposure to pediatric neurosurgery. Residents gain pediatric experience at other hospitals but this rotation allows for dedicated pediatric exposure.
Postgraduate Year 6 & 7
PGY 6 & 7 - Chief Resident Year: One chief resident will be present at each hospital, responsible for managing the neurosurgery service, coordinating patient care between the attending physicians and residents, and gaining direct leadership experience as they get ready to move on to fellowship and attending physician positions after graduation.
