A Note from the Program Director Thanks for your interest in the Vascular Residency at Riverside University Health System! I firmly believe a good fit can make residency actually enjoyable, so with us what you see is what you get. Our main training site is a safety net hospital - complex pathology, people who haven’t had care for years, and sometimes we’re the last hope for a patient whose deck is stacked against them. It's humbling work, but it builds clinical judgment borne of managing real-world complexity. With experience here, you’ll have the tools to handle anything you’ll come across in practice. Residents also spend a significant amount of time at our affiliated Kaiser Permanente hospital, where you'll see how vascular surgery runs inside one of the most sophisticated integrated health systems in the country. The goal is to get a robust education in the breadth of what vascular encompasses. And of course it doesn’t hurt that we’re in sunny Southern California, with access to pretty much any activity you use to stay grounded. Ask one of our residents how fast they can make it to Disneyland from here! 😊 One of our core goals is to adapt to the needs of each resident. Tell us where you want to end up — academics, community practice, complex aortic work, something you're still figuring out — and we can tailor your rotations, mentorship, and case exposure around you. We’re excited to graduate surgeons who are technically sharp and genuinely ready for the specific career they want. What I hope stands out most, though, is our program culture. We've worked hard to build an environment rooted in psychological safety and respectful collegiality, where residents feel comfortable asking questions, speaking up, and learning from mistakes without fear. Autonomy progresses gradually and our faculty genuinely like teaching — they'll scrub in when a case gets dicey but let you run it as soon as you're ready. We care about providing a space where you can be pushed hard clinically without losing the parts of yourself that make you a decent human being outside the hospital. Training isn’t something we just hand over to residents; it's something we build together, evolving each year alongside the people in the program. We want to produce excellent surgeons, true partners in patient care — clinicians we're proud to stand beside as colleagues (and maybe even call for advice!). Radiology-Diagnostic

The residency is centered at the Medical Center with nearby rotations at Loma Linda Children's Hospital to increase pediatric experience and Arrowhead Regional Medical Center to provide additional perspectives on Emergency Radiology. All residents will be provided a 4-week rotation at the American Institute for Radiologic Pathology. Didactic lectures and tumor board are scheduled every Tuesday with protected research time on Tuesday afternoons.

The Medical Center, located in Moreno Valley, has 439 acute care hospital beds. It has stroke designation, moving towards a clot retrieval facility and is a level I trauma facility. The hospital boasts a research center, CECORC – Comparative Effectiveness and Clinical Outcomes Research Center – that is also available to support resident scholarly activity.

Moreno Valley, in Riverside County, is centrally located in Southern California with access to the beach and the mountains and a lower cost of living than exists in Orange County or San Diego. A nearby airport, Ontario International, allows for convenient travel options without the size and crowds of Los Angeles International Airport.

The Radiology staff is committed to the patients, the hospital and the residents we serve. Attention to detail, an excellent patient experience, appropriate supervision and outstanding education in both rotations and in conference settings are just some of our highly important objectives.

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program at Riverside University Health System (RUHS). At RUHS, our goal is to develop skilled, confident, and compassionate podiatric surgeons through comprehensive clinical and surgical training. Residents will care for a diverse and medically complex patient population while gaining progressive responsibility across the full spectrum of podiatric medicine and surgery. We place a strong emphasis on clinical judgment, surgical excellence, professionalism, and lifelong learning. Our residents are expected to be curious, hardworking, team-oriented, and receptive to feedback. The residents who thrive in our program will be those who actively seek opportunities to learn, take ownership of their education, and support the people around them. Plastic surgery is one of the most diverse and rewarding fields in medicine, requiring technical precision, creativity, adaptability, and a deep commitment to our patients. Our goal is to provide residents with comprehensive training across the full spectrum of plastic surgery, including reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, burn care, craniofacial surgery, hand and microsurgery, and complex microvascular reconstruction. At the same time, we recognize that becoming an exceptional plastic surgeon extends beyond the operating room. Our program incorporates education in leadership, practice management, the business of plastic surgery, research, and professional development to prepare our residents for the many paths available within our specialty.

At RUHS, residents benefit from a high-volume, diverse clinical environment and progressive responsibility within a supportive learning culture. We are committed to individualized mentorship and creating opportunities for our residents to develop not only as surgeons, but also as educators, leaders, and advocates for their patients and communities. Primary Care Track-Pediatric Residency

Welcome to the Loma Linda University Pediatric Primary Care Track at Riverside University Health System. Our program was founded by Drs. Aleca Clark and Kathleen Lima with a vision of training pediatricians who are deeply connected to the communities they serve. Our inaugural class graduated in 2017, and since that time, more than 85% of our graduates have gone on to careers in outpatient pediatrics—a reflection of the mission that continues to guide us today. The Primary Care Track is built around four pillars: community engagement, multidisciplinary care, the best of both worlds, and wellness at work. Our residents benefit from training across both Riverside University Health System and Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, combining the resources and breadth of a tertiary children’s hospital with the relationships, continuity, and community-centered experience of a public health system. But PCT is more than where we train. It is the people we train alongside. We are intentionally a small, close-knit community where residents, faculty, staff, and families know one another, celebrate together, support one another through the difficult days, and find plenty of reasons to laugh along the way. Neurosurgery Residency

Welcome and thank you for your interest in the Neurosurgery Residency Program at Riverside University Health System Medical Center. The RUHS ACGME Neurological Surgery Program sole objective is to train the complete neurosurgeon who is exceedingly competent in academic and clinical neurosurgery, who practices medicine with kindness and compassion, who communicates with respectful logical actions and words, who integrates Osteopathic philosophy into the care of not only the nervous system but also the entire person, who progressively improves the individual and societal practice of medicine fostering education, camaraderie and cooperation, who excels in the business and professional aspect of medicine nurturing growth, research, teaching, and best standards of practice, and who can solidify the many facets of medicine leading to improved patient and public instruction and confidence. The program has incorporated within it and mandates that the six core competencies and osteopathic recognition of the ACGME be measured and mastered. These measured “Core Competencies” are medical knowledge, patient care, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, practice-based learning and improvement, systems-based practice, and Osteopathic principles and philosophy. The program also provides the potential for individualization in several areas including basic sciences, clinical electives, and research. The program is designed to provide residents with a thorough grounding in fundamental knowledge of neuroscience, as well as to develop diagnostic and therapeutic judgment along with the requisite surgical skills needed to practice neurological surgery. As a Level I trauma center and safety-net academic medical center, RUHS is deeply committed to equitable, high-quality care. Additionally, we have added multiple hospitals to which our residents provide patient care and gain holistic neurological surgery experience. We also emphasize research and active academic pursuit in neuroscience, general neurosurgery, as well as all neurosurgery subspecialties. While the training emphasizes mainstream general neurosurgery, residents are exposed to significant volumes of brain tumors, complex spine instrumentation, vascular neurosurgery, craniospinal trauma, and neuro-intensive care. All residents are encouraged to pursue subspecialty fellowship training after graduation, and thus far 100% of our graduates have gone on to sub-specialization. Preparing future physicians to meet patients’ expectations for optimal care requires that they learn in clinical settings epitomizing the highest standards of medical practice. Our faculty are committed as role models for residents, nurture both the intellectual and the personal development of residents, foster academic excellence, exemplary professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and maintain competence through life-long learning. In alignment with the Mission of our sponsoring institution, our Program’s endeavor to educate exceedingly competent academic and clinical neurosurgeons that are dedicated in mind and body to the excellence of patient care; improve the quality of health and well-being of the most affected of the patient population at the stage in which they may be at their most critical and vulnerable; and practice medicine with kindness and compassion, integrating the Osteopathic philosophy into the care of not only of the nervous system, but also the entire patient, family and community.
