Year-by-year training structure and rotation schedule
Rotations are in one month blocks: core Vascular, General Surgery or vascular surgery affiliated rotations at Riverside University Health System (RUHS) and Kaiser Permanente. The PGY-1 will rotate through vascular, general surgery, ICU and vascular medicine with one research month and one elective month. The primary goal of the first year is to develop entry-level skills, knowledge, and abilities while managing the surgical patient.
The second-year resident rotates on services at both RUHS and Kaiser Permanente in plastics, vascular lab, IR and ICU in addition to vascular. We also have a pediatric surgery rotation at Childrens Hospital of Orange County, a dedicated research month and an elective month.
The third-year resident rotates on surgery services both at RUHS and Kaiser Permanente with clinical experience on the thoracic surgery, podiatry service, ENT and surgical oncology in addition to more vascular rotations and an elective month.
The fourth-year resident rotates on core vascular surgery at RUHS and Kaiser Permanente nearly all year, with an additional elective month and a senior month in surgical oncology.
