Welcome to the Riverside University Health System Neurosurgery Residency Program
The Neurosurgery Residency Program was founded in 2000 by Dr. Javed Siddiqi and was originally sponsored by Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. It has since evolved into the largest AOA-accredited neurosurgery residency program in the country. We have added multiple hospitals to which our residents provide patient care and gain a holistic neurological surgery experience. We also emphasize research and active academic pursuit in neuroscience, general neurosurgery, as well as all neurosurgery subspecialites.
While the training emphasizes mainstream general neurosurgery, residents are exposed to significant volumes of brain tumors, complex spine instrumentation, vascular neurosurgery, craniospinal trauma, and neurointensive care. All residents are encouraged to pursue subspecialty fellowship training after graduation, and thus far 100% of our graduates have gone on to subspecialization.
Clinical acumen is greatly emphasized, with daily bedside teaching and rounds; there is ample clinic experience under close faculty supervision. The pursuit of academic excellence is an integral part of this program, with frequent didactic teaching sessions, regular journal clubs, case conferences, and board exam preparation sessions. Overall, the primary goal of this program is to produce compassionate and competent mainstream Neurosurgeons with impeccable technical skills, exceptional clinical and surgical judgment, and a passion for life-long learning.
