Fellowship Overview

The Emergency Medicine Advanced Provider (EMAP) Fellowship at Riverside University Health System is a 12.5-month intensive post-graduate training program for certified PAs or NPs in the specialty of Emergency Medicine. This Fellowship is designed to train APs in Emergency Medicine (EM), utilizing didactic and clinical experience. Education will occur under the direct supervision of Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physicians and highly experienced Advanced Providers. Our graduates will become highly skilled, highly competent, compassionate, and efficient emergency medicine providers.

Eligibility

  • Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited PA program
  • Eligible for and/or possess current CA Medical Board Physician Assistant licensure (must be fully licensed by the stat of the program)
  • Eligible for and/or possess current DEA licensure (must be fully licensed by the start of the program)
  • Current certification in ACLS, BLS, and PALS
  • Previous EMS/ED work experience is highly desirable but not required
Important Dates: Cohorts start mid April and mid November (interviews in December and April / May)

Curriculum

  • Fellows will work a total of 2100 clinical hours in acute EM over the 12.5-month fellowship, plus lecture time. Shifts are 10 hours and will include days, nights, and weekends.
  • 3 hours of didactic lecture time weekly
  • Clinical time is primarily spent in the core ED
  • ALTS certification course provided within first 3 months of training
  • Off service rotations include 2 weeks each of: Internal Medicine, ICU, Orthopedics, Bedside POCUS Ultrasound
  • 2 weeks total of elective specialties (may be broken into 2 different week-long electives)
