Riverside University Health System has many safety measures in place for our patients and their families to prevent exposure to COVID-19 in our hospital and clinics. Below are things that we are doing to help keep you safe while you are at the Medical Center or one of our Community Health Centers.

- Face Covering or Mask

- All patients and visitors are required to wear a face covering or mask. If needed, a surgical mask will be provided.
- All staff are required to wear a face covering or mask and other necessary appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for their work environment, when caring for patients.
- Extra Cleaning and Disinfecting

- Frequent disinfecting of high-touch, public surfaces.
- Screening and Separating Patients

- Everyone entering, staff, will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms.
- We screen and separate patients with known or suspected COVID-19 from other patients—this includes providing separate pathways and areas to limit the risk of transmitting the virus to others.
- We implemented separate pathways very early and continue to this precaution at all entry points, including the emergency room and clinics.
- When patients are hospitalized, those individuals with COVID-19 are placed in separate units with trained teams of healthcare providers who are wearing appropriate protective equipment.
- Infectious patients will continue to be cared for in isolation, away from non-infectious patients.
- Virtual Care Options

We can arrange for the appropriate level of care depending on your symptoms and needs. This includes phone and video visits with one of our providers. You may not even need to leave home for care.

- Our waiting rooms and patient flow areas have been reconfigured to maintain physical distancing.
- Six-foot social distances will be established in public areas.
- Keeping Staff Healthy

- All of our staff are required monitor their health daily and are screened when they arrive for work.
- When a staff member is sick, they are required to stay home until they have recovered.
- Staff have the ability to access COVID-19 testing.
- Labor and Delivery

- Each expectant mother admitted to Labor and Delivery are tested for COVID-19.
- A specially trained team is available to take care of mother who test positive to make sure extra precautions are taken to keep everyone safe, including her new baby.
- Visitor Restrictions

- We have restricted visitations within the hospital. All routine visiting has been suspended until the transmission of COVID-19 is no longer a threat to our patients, staff and community.
- Please contact your healthcare provider if you have any questions or concerns about visitation.
- Testing for COVID-19

- Prior to surgery all patients are tested for COVID-19, regardless of whether or not they have symptoms of COVID-19.
- If a patient tests positive and if the surgery can be safely delayed, we will postpone it until a subsequent test is performed and is negative.
- RUHS is the testing leader in the state and has several community testing sites for patients to get tested.

- We are continuously monitoring information and adapting our care practices in accordance with the latest recommendations from Public Health, California Department of Public Health, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, and Prevention.
